March NOAO/NSO Newsletter is now on line!
With Issue 101 we will begin producing only two issues a year, in March and September. Additionally, we are changing the section organization to make the Newsletter more useful and informative to our readers.
Early Saturday morning (February 27, 2010, local time), a magnitude 8.8 earthquake struck southern Chile. US observing facilities in the north of Chile including Cerro Tololo Interamerican Observatory (a division of NOAO), Las Campanas Observatory, and Gemini Observatory experienced the quake but reported no damage or injuries to staff. At the same time, many observatory staff have family and friends in southern Chile, and our thoughts and prayers go out to them. Travel to and within Chile remains difficult, and tourist travel at this time is discouraged. Observers planning to travel to CTIO (La Serena) should check with CTIO staff for the latest travel information. See also the CTIO Update page.
