The interior of the room containing the Fourier Transform Spectrograph, an early and very innovative infrared spectrograph used at the Mayall 4-meter telescope at the Kitt Peak National Observatory near Tucson, Arizona. This picture was taken in 1978. This pioneering instrument was only recently superseded, after many years of reliable service, by the Phoenix spectrograph.
